Arrive in Padua in thelate afternoon, for a stroll around its beautiful squares and maybe an aperitifin the Caffe Pedrocchi, the famous gathering point for intellectuals andstudents from the 19th century onwards. Being home to one of theoldest universities in Europe, Padua has a very visible student population,which gives it a very lively atmosphere. City life centres around three greatsquares, one of which, the Piazza dei Signori boasts Italy’s oldestastronomical clock, the other two being Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dellaFrutta. After your aperitivo and having soaked up the atmosphere of the‘passagiata’ (evening stroll), have dinner at Le Calandre, one of the bestrestaurants in Italy (not included and closed Sunday and Monday).
