One of the undoubtedhighlights of a visit to Puglia are the ‘Trulli’, strange conical buildingsmade of stone but with the tops picked out in white and Alberobello is theheart of ‘Trulli’ country. Nobody quite knows the origin of these strangebuildings, but as they are built of dry stone, there is speculation that theycould be dismantled very quickly if the tax-collectors came round. On thistour, you will be met by an expert cook who will give you a demonstration ofdelicious Puglian cooking in a ‘Trullo’. You will then get to taste all thedishes for lunch (included). Puglia has more olive trees than any other part ofItaly and in the afternoon you will be taken to a beautiful old farmhouse setin a magnificent olive grove and get to visit the underground oil mill andtaste the unctuous oil. Then onto Ostuni, high on a hill and known as the‘white city’. The whole town is white-washed in the Greek style and haswonderful narrow winding lanes.
