Marsala wines were first exploited by the Englishwho visited Marsala in the 18th century on the ‘Grand Tour’ andquickly realised that these fortified wines had the same properties as port, which enabled them to travel for long periods of time without spoiling. Thus, many of the wineries today still reflect the English style of architecture asyou will see today with a visit to the Florio winery, founded in 1832. Despitebeing badly bombed in WWII, the winery has been beautifully restored and youwill be able to learn about the wine-making process and of course taste. Thereis also a fine ceramic collection.
