You will arrive in Modica after a dramatic drivethrough rugged, bare-rocked hills, with the only vegetation clinging to thevalleys below. The town itself is very un-touristy and you will feel that youare seeing the ‘real’ Sicily. The town divides itself in to the ‘upper’ and‘lower’ Modica and the upper town is dominated by the magnificent church of SanGiorgio with its twin flight of steps. You will then have a chance to visit afamous local patisserie and chocolatier and most importantly, have a tasting oftheir delicious and very unique chocolate. They have been producing chocolatehere for many generations and have a unique recipe, the so called cold method, whereby the sugar doesn’t completely melt, giving it a grainy texture. Onceupon a time, it was only made for noble families on festive occasions and tothis day has only natural ingredients, with no chemical additives. Favouriteflavours are hot pepper, cinnamon and vanilla.
