Explore the much neglectedand fascinating interior today, with a visit to Nuoro. The position is superb,nestling beneath the soaring peak of Monte Ortobene on one side and MonteCorrasi on the other. The old quarter is most attractive and there is awonderful museum of Sardinian life and traditions. The town boasts some quitenotable literary figures, the most famous being Grazia Deledda who won theNobel Prize for Literature in 1926 and his house is open to the public,displaying various photographs and mementoes. In the afternoon, visit theincredible archaeological excavations at Romanzesu, some of the most importantin Sardinia. It dates back to the Bronze Age and consists of about 100 stonehuts and five religious structures and makes a fascinating excursion.
