To visit Pompeii is probably as close as we can get to time travel and truly see how the ancient Romans lived. During this tour, we will step back to August 79AD, when mighty Vesuvius had been rumbling for some days and finally erupted, covering everything in its path, including the city of Pompeii, in a thick layer of ash, thus preserving it for years to come. It is estimated that a large part of the population of 20,000 had already been evacuated, but those that were left were suspended in time, the ash creating plaster casts of their bodies. Excavation of this ancient city began in the 18th century and continues even to this day. During this tour, we’ll explore the huge impressive Forum, walk the ancient Roman streets, and stroll into Patrician villas, complete with intricate frescoes, mosaics and fountains. You’ll even be able to spot ancient writing and graffiti on the walls. The most fascinating parts however, are the ancient baths, which show just how forward-thinking the ancient Romans actually were.
