Today’s tour starts in Segesta, a fantastic complexof Greek ruins, north of Palermo. Segesta was founded by the Elymini, a peoplewhose language has yet to be transcribed. They claimed to be refugees who hadescaped the Fall of Troy, but some scholars believe them to be a tribe ofIberian-Ligurian descent. Wherever they came from, they left behind one of thefinest Doric temples to be seen anywhere and a small theatre. From here, make astop in Trapani, famous for its salt pans, before going onto Erice. Erice is amost charming hill town, with its ancient walls intact and some delightfulnarrow, medieval streets, not to mention stupendous views over Trapani andacross to the Egardi Islands.
