This tour starts with a drive to the AlcantaraGorge with its incredible waterfall, created from an old eruption of lava.Continue through Francavilla to the charming and unspoilt village ofCastiglione di Sicilia and then walk up to the old Greek fortress from whereyou’ll get a breath-taking view over the Alcantara Valley. After the walk,drive to Piano Provenzana, a splendid ski area, sadly destroyed by the eruptionof 2002. On the way down the mountain, stop and take a one-hour walk throughthe Etna National Park with the ‘Sartorious’ craters and a wonderful variety ofvegetation, including pine and birch trees. Resume the drive and head down tothe ‘Grotta dei Ladroni’, a marvellous lava cave, formed a very long time ago(comfortable walking shoes required, no sandals). The highlight of the day willbe a helicopter ride, either from Lingualglossa or Giardini Naxos.
