One of the most unique things you can experience on a holiday to southern Italy is hike the mighty Mount Vesuvius. This great volcano is one of the most famous in the country, responsible for both destroying and preserving the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, during an eruption in 79AD. Our hiking tour will begin under the shadow of this imposing mountain and take you all the way to the summit. From the top, you’ll enjoy stunning views across the Bay of Naples and beyond, across the cerulean sea. From up here, you’ll also be able to see the vineyards and olive groves, grown on the nearby volcanic land. One of the most unique things you’ll experience up is peering over the rim of the crater and watching the hot lava spit and bubble below. It’s a relatively easy hike, so can be enjoyed by people of varying abilities. Remember to bring comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen and water with you.
