Probably the bestknown resort of the Italian Riviera, Portofino has been attracting the world’s‘glitterati’, since the ‘dolce vita’ days of Bogart and Bacall, Burton andTaylor, Sophia Loren and Princess Grace of Monaco, to name but a few. One ofthe main attractions for such stars was the Hotel Splendido, a truly splendidfive star hotel and of course the designer boutiques which cluster around it.The natural harbour though is the main appeal and it is reached via a narrow,winding road from the hills above. A delightful morning/afternoon can be spentwandering around the narrow lanes and watching the luxurious yachts coming andgoing.
